Go Media Stadium to host the Isuzu A-League Semi-Finals
Following Auckland FC’s remarkable debut season, Go Media Stadium will host the second leg of the Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s Semi-Final on Saturday 24 May.
Auckland FC celebrated securing the Premier Plate trophy in front of a sellout home crowd as they defeated Perth in April. After topping the A-League table, the Black Knights have qualified directly for the Semi-Finals of the post-season playoff competition.
The Semi-Final takes place over two legs. As A-League Premiers, Auckland FC have elected to play the away leg first on Saturday 17 May, and the home leg second at Go Media Stadium on Saturday 24 May.
The opponent for the Semi-Final is still to be determined but will definitely be an Australian team, with the Black Knights the only New Zealand team left in contention.
One trophy down, one to go
Go Media Stadium has become a fortress for Auckland FC in their inaugural year, where they have lost just once in 13 home matches.
Now, after a record-breaking season which has already delivered silverware, they bid to go one step further.
This will be the first time that Auckland has hosted the A League Finals Series.
Tātaki Auckland Unlimited Director of Auckland Stadiums, James Parkinson says, “Go Media Stadium has been the home of some incredible moments in New Zealand’s sporting tapestry and we’re excited to be hosting what will be a special occasion for Auckland FC, and the people of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.”
“Auckland has been enchanted by the magic of Auckland FC’s debut year and we now all look forward to watching the team go one step further. We look forward to seeing the stands packed full of black and blue, hopefully for two nights, in May”.
