Green Go Media Stadium 

Go Media Stadium has taken another significant environmental step forward with the installation of a new rainwater capture system. 

The new system collects rainwater from the West Stand roof into two 50,000-litre tanks. Captured water feeds the new sustainable flushing system in the recently upgraded toilet blocks across the stand. 

Reducing Water Consumption 

The new system gives harvested rainwater a new purpose – allowing us to reuse this precious taonga. 

Collection from the 160m2  West Stand Roof will provide cistern tanks with enough rainwater to supply over 8,000 toilet flushes. When the weather is fine and there’s no rainfall to rely on, the system automatically switches to potable water, ensuring a continuous and reliable supply. 

Alongside environmental benefits, the new system is expected to save more than $13,000 in annual water costs.  

Strengthening our Environmental Footprint 

James Parkinson, Director of Auckland Stadiums stated, “Preserving water and looking after this taonga is a key focus of our sustainability strategy at Auckland Stadiums. The new system improves infrastructure resilience, avoids waste, and will save money.” 

“We want Go Media Stadium to become the most sustainable large stadium in New Zealand and projects like this help push us towards that goal.” 

This installation aligns with Tātaki Auckland Unlimited's Climate Change and Environment Strategic Plan, where responsible water use has been identified as one of five key focus areas.
